History
The Australian Agricultural Company (AAco) was established as a land development company in 1824. This was with the assistance of the British Parliament with a Crown Grant of 1,000,000 acres in the Port Stephens area of the Colony of New South Wales. Thus, 2001 marks 177 years of continuous operation making AAco one of the oldest companies in Australia after the Bank of New South Wales (now Westpac Bank).
Presently AAco is Australia’s largest beef cattle producer with 26 properties across the Northern Territory and Queensland covering an area of 7 million hectares.
AAco´s success can be related to several unifying factors. We have always operated on a grand scale and today this translates in to powerful economies of scale. The meticulous control of expenditure has led to low production costs; investment has been in prime land and breeding stock; diversification has taken place in different geographic regions to mitigate the effects of droughts; and AAco has had loyal staff, many providing a lifetime of service.

Land
AAco is custodian of 7,958,954.14 hectares of land across the Northern Territory and Queensland, approximately 1.2% of Australia.
Properties have been selected over a period of time for quality of land, availability of water and development potential. AAco manages its land resources in order to maintain environmental sustainability to maximise productivity and improve the value of land assets.
AAco has an established track record of environmentally sensitive land use and was one of the first companies to employ its own field rangelands officers.
Cattle
Our Company manages a cattle herd in excess of 600,000 head. The AAco breeding program is designed to:
maximise adaptation to extensive subtropical production systems;
maximise production;
and ensure meat quality exceeds customer’s expectations.
AAco cattle are managed to maintain animal health and productivity meeting strict animal welfare standards.
Brands
AAco rarely sells "fullsets" to any market but instead chooses to sell smaller groups of primal cuts into niche market channels.
The major markets for AAco's portfolio of grain fed beef brands includes North and SE Asia, USA, Middle East and of course Australia.
Our 1824 brand is predominantly sold into Japan and Australia whilst our Wagyu brands are predominantly sold into South Korea, USA, Hong Kong and Japan.
