TyraTech Inc develops and commercialises efficacious proprietary insecticide and parasiticide products which incorporate unique blends of natural active ingredients. The product array addresses a diversity of pesticide market opportunities that include agricultural and horticultural applications, consumer applications, professional pest control applications, vector control (e.g. mosquitoes), and human and animal healthcare applications.
TyraTech's proprietary Development Platform enables rapid characterization of potent mixtures of plant oil pesticides (insecticides and parasiticides). Natural plant oils are already known to have various degrees of pesticidal activity, but historically have not been as effective as synthetic-chemical based products. TyraTech technology overcomes this performance limitation with its proprietary blends of individual oil compounds that are specifically selected for their synergistic ability to activate multiple insect neurological and olfactory receptors.
TyraTech Inc., created by XL TechGroup in May 2004, is developing a range of pesticides using natural active ingredients. The ingredients are based on natural plant oils, which are designed to be environmentally friendly, harmless to humans, animals and the environment.
TyraTech is able to quickly evaluate natural ingredient combinations by utilizing a proprietary screening process, developed at Vanderbilt University, Tennessee, that allows lightening fast identification of synergistic blends of active ingredients. TyraTech's development has been progressing rapidly into both insecticidal and related human healthcare applications.

The TyraTech technology began with the aim to identify molecular components required for insect behavior and survival, offering molecular targets for the development of drugs that may replace traditional insecticides. It is well known that insects have a highly developed olfactory system with sensitivity to substances like certain essential oils. TyraTech's proprietary technology is based on a unique discovery platform for the identification of both individual and combinations of compounds that can bind to sensitive G-protein coupled neurological and olfactory receptors of invertebrates (for example, insects and certain parasites). Compounds that bind to and activate these receptors have been shown to be powerful insecticides by triggering a disruption of the intra-cellular cAMP and "calcium cascade" pathway that is necessary for insect function and survival. This effect results in the repelling or killing of the invertebrate.
The TyraTech platform enables a high-throughput assay that can rapidly screen thousands of candidates a day and enables prototype active formulations to be created within days. With this capability, combinations of compounds that can interact to produce synergistic activity can be rapidly identified. These mixtures are also pursued through the patent process, designed to give the Company intellectual property protection.
Products
Synthetic chemical products have been the primary means for control of invertebrate pests in home and industry, and for personal and animal health, but these products are often compromised by the development of insect resistance, environmental concerns, and adverse health effects in humans and animals. TyraTech products are designed to overcome these issues.
The insecticide and parasiticide markets TyraTech serves include:
In each of these markets segments, there is a recognized need for safer and efficacious pesticides that lack the toxicity profile and incidence for resistance development that are characteristic of many of the currently used chemicals.
TyraTech products include both packaged/filled products for its own direct sale, and active ingredient blends to be incorporated into final products by its partners. These TyraTech products currently fit into one of two categories: TyraTech Natural and TyraTech EXTEND.
