Company Diagram

In the United Kingdom we are one of the leading suppliers of dressed salads. In recent years, demand for dressed salads has been steadily growing driven by the increasing need for convenient and healthy foods. We have been able to satisfy the United Kingdom consumer’s more “adventurous” tastes, beyond the traditional and still very popular coleslaw, by developing an exciting and innovative range of pasta and snack salads.

Current Operations

Business Divisions

Del Monte Fresh Produce Company truly does it all! We grow, pack, ship and distribute our products ourselves. That means we're able to respond quickly to changing market conditions. Our "vertically integrated" structure also allows us to control the quality and consistency of our products, facilitating "just in time" delivery of our products at the very peak of freshness. This close control and management of the many different aspects of the journey from field to kitchen ensures that we meet the needs of our customers quickly and maintain the quality standards for which the name Del Monte® brand has earned global recognition.

Packaging

We have packaging engineers and design experts around the globe to provide cutting edge solutions and just in time supply to our operations.  The corporate packaging department is responsible for review, development, and approval of Del Monte Fresh Produce Company  packaging products worldwide. Design personnel work closely to create packaging designs that meet our customer's needs.

The packaging team works directly with products, purchasing, and quality assurance to develop new packaging that is more cost competitive, protects the product well, and survives the rigors of distribution.  A significant percentage of Del Monte Fresh Produce Company products travel on pallets on shipboard below deck. Most of our product such as bananas, melons and pineapples are shipped in corrugated paper packaging. Other products, such as fresh-cut fruit are packed in plastic in order to prolong the freshness and quality of the fruit.

Del Monte Fresh Produce Company uses special computer systems to develop packaging specifications using CAD (Computer Aided Design), PDS (Pallet Design System), and TOPS, a program that lets us develop graphic representations of how a complete unit of packages will fit on our pallets. These tools help our packaging team meet with the demands of the ever-changing fresh-fruit and vegetable business.

Land Trucking

At Del Monte Fresh Produce Company, our careful management of the entire supply chain helps to ensure that our wide range of quality products are available to consumers at their very peak of freshness. A key link in our logistics network is our in-land trucking operations. In all key world markets, we have a significant trucking business to ensure speed of delivery and proper maintenance of the cold chain.

Del Monte Fresh Produce Company has approximately 700 trucks in its fleet and the numbers continue to grow.  We use modern and safe equipment to move product from our ports to our distribution centers or from our distribution centers to our business customers. In select markets, we offer direct store delivery.

By controlling the entire journey from the field to the store, we ensure the shortest supply chain, under optimum conditions, to deliver the freshest and highest quality products to the market.

In North America, we have Tricont Trucking Company, a growing in-land trucking business for transporting our own products, as well as profitable third party freight.

Distribution Centers

Del Monte Fresh Produce Company has 45 distribution centers conveniently located near ports-of-entry and strategically located throughout many key countries where we market our products. With our extensive network, we can provide fast, safe and convenient distribution of our products.

Our warehouses are regulated by state-of-the-art thermometers, hydrometers, and pulp temperature sensors to provide our products with the best environment for storage before distribution.  We offer ripening, cold storage, sorting, repacking, fresh cut processing, pick-up and delivery services.  These services allow our business customers to avoid costly out-of-stocks, to buy fill-in product locally, to receive just-in-time delivery to maximize turns, and to receive value added products, like pre-conditioned fruit, bananas ripened to their specific color stage requirements, or have freshly cut produce delivered daily.

Ocean Shipping

From the moment our products are harvested, speed is of the essence. Therefore, we swiftly transport our fresh produce and processed foods and beverages to markets worldwide using a fleet of 23 owned and 18 chartered refrigerated vessels. We move the products quickly via truck to the seaports served by our ships, where the products are loaded carefully into chilled holds. Our ships are also used to transport the materials we use to pack our products, as well as cargo provided by our commercial cargo customers.

In total, 90 percent of our products are transported by vessel to distribution facilities operated by Del Monte Fresh Produce Company or our agents. Once we unload the products and perform final quality checks, our distribution facilities, with their state-of-the-art refrigeration warehouses, move the products out as quickly as possible on their journey to customers.

To maximize the efficiency of our ships and the profitability of our shipping operations, we also offer inbound and outbound ocean cargo carrier services to third parties.
