Modern Water was established to build and exploit a portfolio of water technologies to address problems of the availability of freshwater and the treatment and disposal of wastewater. By 2025 it is forecast that two thirds of the world’s population will live in countries classified as water stressed. Climate change is likely to further exacerbate this situation.
Managed by an executive team which has long experience in the water industry, Modern Water is at the leading edge of new and important technology, which is vital to the future sustainability of the world’s most precious commodity.
Modern Water currently has three investments in its portfolio:
Surrey Aqua Technology
Poseidon Water
CYMTOX
We are actively investigating other investment opportunities in line with our strategic focus on water solutions.
Surrey Aqua Technology
Surrey Aqua Technology has developed pioneering technology to purify saltwater and other liquid in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
With the ability to significantly reduce the cost of desalination for both existing and new plants, Surrey Aqua expects to be able to capture a considerable share of the desalination market.
Modern Water has a majority stake in Surrey Aqua.
Poseidon Water
Poseidon Water has developed systems based on the use of seawater for the treatment of wastewater. With an expectation of saving about 30% of freshwater consumption in the process, Poseidon systems will add considerably to the handling of wastewater in environmentally sensitive, coastal and water stressed areas. The Mediterranean coast, Florida and Australia exemplify the type of potential sites where Poseidon’s process could provide valuable solutions across a range of benefits.
Modern Water owns 51% of Poseidon Water
CYMTOX
CYMTOX technology monitors acute water toxicity on a continuous, real-time basis, like a modern day canary. Its monitoring device constantly checks the presence of water borne toxins and warns of suspicious changes. The core technology, based on the well-established science of bioluminescence, can identify to 1/0000th of a lethal dose of cyanide in three seconds. Conventional available products can take up to two hours to do the same.
Targeting a wide-range of industries, consumer products, water supply and distribution systems, CYMTOX is 16.65% owned by Modern Water.
